What�s Bulk Messaging?
Bulk Messaging is a new corporate service that allows Zain Bahrain Customers to send and receive SMS/MMS messages. This service will enable businesses and corporations to easily transmit SMS and MMS messages to a huge mass of recipients conveniently, quickly and cost-effectively.

It can be used for critical alerts, Special offers, promotions, contacting employees, reminders and greetings.

What do I need to use the Bulk Messaging service?
A valid credit card (for prepaid users) or a post-paid mobile subscription with Zain (for postpaid users).

Will my messages get received in case the mobile phone of the recipient is turned off or out of network coverage?
Mobile network will keep trying to send the message based on the validity period set by the telecom operator.

Yes, all you need is an access to the internet and a valid credit card.

Can I be charged for Zain Bulk Messaging on my mobile phone bill?
Yes, but that is subjected to approval of Credit Control department at Zain Bahrain.

How do I stop receiving promotional material or certain messages from certain senders?
Each message sent through the Zain Bulk Messaging service, has a unique name or a short code that appears as the message sender which is called sender ID. To stop receiving messages from that particular source, send the message 'UNSUB sender ID' to 400000. Alternatively, you can try replying to the received message with the word 'UNSUB'.
Note that this only unsubscribes you from that particular user or organization. Other users of the service can send to you, until you unsubscribe them.

How do I request to receive messages after I have requested to unsubscribe?
If at any time you would like to reactivate your attendance on a particular service in order to message from that source again send the following message
SUB sender ID

Can I schedule my SMS or MMS messages to be sent in a specific time in the future?
Yes, you can.

If I send SMS or MMS messages to a number of recipients, can I receive responses from them?
Yes, they have to send their messages (SMS-based) normally to the short code that will appear in the message sent to them. And you can view all the responses in your personal inbox on the Bulk messaging system.

Can I transfer my responses that I’m going to get on the Inbox to my personal email account?
Yes, you can.

Can I send SMS messages from my email account (Email2SMS)?
Yes, you can. Free email services like yahoo, hotmail or gmail are not supported, due to the security requirements required for this setup.

What is the difference between an ‘individual’ account versus ‘corporate account’?

An individual account is designed for use by a single individual, or small business, where sharing of the account with any other persons is not required.

A corporate account is designed for an organization wishing to enable messaging for the entire organization. Such accounts have a common billing mechanism, and administrative facilities for administrators.

Corporate Accounts include all of the features of individual accounts, plus the multiple – user features. The account types are equal in regard to messaging-related features.

What are Sender Names, Shortcodes and Premium Shortcodes?
A �Sender Name� (also known as Sender ID) is a general term for any text or number that a message is shown to originate from, in place of the phone number of the sender.
The Sender Name can be one of the following:
Alphabetic: This can be any text characters upto 11 characters in length, describing the name or nature of your organization, for example, �Volvo�, �F1 Fever�, �Zain�. Recipients of this message cannot reply to the sender.
Shortcode: This is a shorter-length �phone number� that the message is shown to originate from. For example, �8888�, �71235�, etc. This is typically used when the sender of the message wishes the message recipients to reply back to him/her.
Premium Shortcode: This is similar to the Shortcode, except that the reply is charged at a rate higher than a normal sms/mms message. This is useful for organizations providing a chargeable service to customers.

What are the Prepaid and Postpaid mechanisms?
Prepaid mechanism is for those subscribed through the Mode of Billing as Credit Card. In this case using his credit card the customer can buy as many credits as he wants. And the account of his credits i.e. how many credits are present and how many of them are used, all of these are displayed in the customer�s Account Details. International customers mostly prefer the prepaid mechanism for their subscription.

Postpaid mechanism on the other hand is for those subscribed through the Mode of Billing as Phone Billing. In this case the customer is billed on to his phone no.

Contacts & Contact Groups: -

How do I add a new contact number into address book?
1) Press Contacts button in User Home Page. It displays Manage contacts page with all the contacts if present.
2) Press Add Contacts button and then enter details.
3) Click save button to save the contact details.

How do I delete contacts from the address book?
1) Press Contacts button in User Home Page. It displays Manage contacts page with all the contacts if present.
2) Press Delete button next to each contact to be deleted.
3) Press Yes button to confirm delete.

What is a contact group?
We use Contact Group for the ease of messaging to the same set of people. For eg. If we want to send a message to all the employees in the sales department then we would desireably create a group of all the persons in that department with their Contacts. So, as a result of sending message to each and every single person in that department we can send one single message to the entire department or to the entire group.
Contacts can be a part of multiple Contact Groups.

How do I create Groups?
1) Press Contacts button in User Home Page. It displays Manage contacts page with all the contacts if present.
2) Press Manage contact groups button to display Manage Contact Groups Page.
3) Press Add new group, enter details and click OK button to save.

How do I add existing contacts to groups?
1) Press Contacts button in User Home Page. It displays Manage contacts page with all the contacts if present.
2) Press Manage contact groups button to display Manage Contact Groups Page. It displays the list of groups created.
3) Press Edit button next to the group to be edited.
4) Press �Add from contacts� button to display all the contacts present in your address book.
5) Select the contacts to be added by clicking the check box and press �Add checked contacts� to add it to group.

Can one contact be present in different groups?
Yes, one contact can be present in more than one group.

Can I add contacts not present in my address book to groups? If yes how?
1) Press Contacts button in User Home Page. It displays Manage contacts page with all the contacts if present.
1) Press Manage contact groups button to display Manage Contact Groups Page. It displays the list of groups created.
2) Press Edit button next to the group to be edited.
3) Press �Manual entry� button and in the following page enter Phone number, Name(optional) pairs on separate lines. You can enter multiple entries at the same time.
4) Press OK to save changes.

Is there any other way of adding bulk contacts to groups? What is CSV and what does it denote?
1) You can add bulk contacts to groups using CSV file upload. CSV denotes comma separated values.
2) Press Contacts button in User Home Page. It displays Manage contacts page with all the contacts if present.
2) Press Manage contact groups button to display Manage Contact Groups Page. It displays the list of groups created.
3) Press Edit button next to the group to be edited.
4) Press �Upload� button and in the following page click the link. A popup window will appear. Browse to the required file and then click upload.
5) The data in the CSV file will be displayed as a list.
6) Remove contacts that are not required by clicking the Remove button next to each contact.
7) Click on �Add Displayed Contacts� to add it to group.

How do I save an Excel Worksheet in a CSV Format?
Always note that the first column of the CSV file should contain the mobile phone number and the second column can optionally contain the name of the person.
1. Open MS Excel.
2. In cell A1 type in the phone no. of the person.
3. In cell B1 type in the name of the person to whom the number belongs.
4. Similarly in cell A2 type a phone no. and in cell B2- the name of the person.
5. Following the above steps you can type in as many numbers and names that you want.
6. Click on the save button.
7. In the Save As dialog box, from the Save as Type, select CSV (comma delimited).
8. Click on Save.
9. After saving it click on the Compose button present in the Home page.
10. And navigate through: Send SMS Message, Next, Select form CSV Data.
11. Click on Browse and select the CSV file that you had previously saved.
12. Click on Open.
13. Then Click on Upload.
14. You can then send the message to those displayed contacts.

What is Group Ownership? Can many people view the groups I created?
Group Ownership is an option which defines that how many users can have access to a particular contact group.
Yes, many people can view the groups that you have created provided that they have access to the groups which is provided by you.

How do I provide access for users to my group(s)?
1. Click on �My Account�.
2. Click on �Manage Users�.
3. Click on �Add Euser�.
4. Enter the necessary details.
5. Click on �Contacts�.
6. Click on �Manage Contact Groups�.
7. �Edit� the group for which you want to provide access.
8. Click on �View Ownership Details�.
9. Tick the user(s) you want to provide access to.
10. Click on Save.

Sending SMS/MMS:

How do I send a message?
1) Press Compose button in User Home page.
2) Select the message type SMS or MMS.
3) You can either select your number(s) from the Address Book, Mailing lists, CSV Data or else you can enter it Manually.
4) After doing that, press Next.
5) After that you can type your required message in the space provided or you can even choose a predefined message.
6) Press Next.
7) A page showing your SMS Preview appears.
8) Press Next.
9) In this page you can either send the message immediately or schedule the message on a specified date/time. Here you can also choose to send the message as a Flash Message and also choose to obtain the Status Report of your message.
10) Choose the required options and press Next.
11) In this page your are supposed to provide a �Message Batch Name� meaning, give a Name to your message and you also get to choose the Sender Name.
12) After entering the details you will be provided with a Confirmation page.
13) If all your details provided are as per your requirement then press the �Send Messages� button.
14) If you want to change the details, then press the Back button.

How do I add message recipients from my address book?
1) Press Compose button in User Home page.
2) Select the message type SMS or MMS and click Next button to go to select message recipients page.
3) Press �Select from Address Book� button to display all contacts present.
4) Select the message recipients by clicking the check box and press �Add checked contacts�.
5) The selected contacts will be displayed in the message recipients list

Can I send message to a group of people? How?
1) Yes you can send a message to a group of people.
2) Click Compose button in User Home page.
3) Select the message type SMS or MMS and click Next button to go to select message recipients page.
4) Click �Select from Mailing list� button to display all the groups defined.
5) Click on Select button next to the group to be added, to add all contacts present in the group (mailing list) to the message recipient list.

How do I add message recipients from an external source like CSV files?
1) In your User Home Page click the Compose button.
2) Choose your required message type and click Next.
3) Click on �Select from CSV Data� .
4) Click on the link �Click here to upload your CSV File�, present on the top of the page.
5) Select the CSV File to be uploaded.
6) Click Upload.
7) Click on �Add Displayed Contact�.
8) Click on Next.
9) Here write your message corresponding to the following syntax.
10) Eg):- Hello Mr. {NAME} how are you?
11) Click on Next and view the result of your syntax.
12) Click on Next and schedule as per your requirements.

What is a Template?
A template is the static part of the text of such an email or SMS message.Templates can be defined in the Manage Templates page.

How do I define Tagnames for a template?
A template consists of the text of the message, with tags in place of information to be embedded into it. A tag follows the following syntax:
{TAGNAME}
where TAGNAME is defined by the system.
For example, the template:
"Dear {CUSTOMERNAME}, Thank you for registering your account"
with the value of CUSTOMERNAME as "John Doe"
will be converted to the text
"Dear John Doe, Thank you for registering your account".

How do I add numbers manually to my message?
1. Click on �Compose�.
2. Choose message type and click Next.
3. Click on �Enter Numbers Manually�.

Can I delete one or more message recipients after selecting?
Yes, you can delete them by clicking on to the Delete button available beside each recipient.

How many files can I send as an attachment to an MMS? What is the maximum files size allowed?
You can send an unlimited number of files as attachment (handset restrictions may apply). But, the total maximum size allowed is 100 KBytes.

Can I send a message on a scheduled date? How?
Yes, you can send a message on a scheduled date.
1) After typing in the message text and viewing its preview you get a page called �Message Sending Option�.
2) Here click on �Send Message On� and schedule your desired date and time.

What is �Message Batch Name�?
A �Message Batch Name� is any name that you want to give to your message that is to be sent.

What is Quick Compose?
Quick Compose is one of the available options that enables faster and quicker making and sending of messages both SMS and MMS at the same time. This option may be used when you want to send message(s) to a lot of recipients in one go.

How do I send a message having a message recipient name and send to multiple people at the same time?
1. In your User Home Page click the Compose button.
2. Choose your required message type and click Next.
3. Select your desired contacts and click on Next.
4. Now you will get a Message Text Box and here type the following:

How do I forward and reply to the message I receive?
1. In your User Home Page click on Inbox.
2. Click on �Details�.
3. Click on �Reply� to reply or �Forward� to forward the message.

Can I reply to multiple people?
1. In the Inbox page choose the people you want to reply by ticking in their respective checkboxes.
2. Click on �Reply to selected contacts�.

How do I change my password?
1. In your User Home Page, click on �My Account�.
2. Click on �Change Password� present under the Others heading.
3. Enter your Old and New Password.
4. Click on OK.

What is predefined messages? How do I add, edit and delete them?
Predefined messages are those messages where you already have a previously written message and when in future, if you feel the need of sending that message again then you just have to store that message. Here�s how you do it:
1. Click on �My Accounts� in your User Home Page.
2. Click on �Predefined Messages�, present under the Account Setup heading.
3. Click on �Add�.
4. Here enter your Message Title and your desired Message.
5. Click on Save.
6. There are also �Add�, �Edit� and �Delete� buttons present through which you can add another new message, Edit an existing message or even delete a message.

What are user-defined fields?
User-Defined fields are basically attributes that you can provide for your contacts for a more detailed view. UDF stands for User Defined Fields in the Address Book. While specifying a contact in the address book you can assign upto five attributes for a contact in the address book. These attributes can then be used inside the message by using tag values.

Note that once the UDF fields are assigned they will be applicable to all the contacts in the address book though the values may vary.

For eg.:
Hello {1} {Name} welcome to {2}

where 1 & 2 are the User Defined fields for all the contacts in the Address Book.

When I create a sender name, it displays status as �Blocked,awaiting approval�. What does it mean?
It means that the Sender Names that you have created have to be approved by the Zain Staff. Unless they are not approved, you cannot utilize them in sending any messages.
